Lead Database Administrator

HOW WILL YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

We value creativity, collaboration and a forward-thinking approach to technology. We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator with a strong cloud infrastructure background. You will play a crucial role in owning, designing, managing and optimising the databases and bridging the gap between development and operations.  

VARIED DAY TO DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Full Ownership of Database Administration: Manage, monitor, and optimize our database systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security.

  • Database Design: Design and build a highly resilient/scalability micro database environment.

  • Cloud Migration: Lead and assist in the migration of databases in Azure, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA, infrastructure and system architects, to support application deployment and performance tuning.

  • Continuous Development: Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge, sharing insights with the team.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to database architecture, DevOps processes, and migration strategies.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Experience of Agile working would be advantageous.

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A CANDIDATE?

  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or similar role supporting production relational database systems. Experience with MySQL is desired

  • Experience with design, build and configuration of database systems for high performance, availability, scalability and micro service architecture across the Azure estate

  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimisation (PTO) of database systems

  • Experience with backups/archiving/restores, and recovery models

  • Experience with Cloud Databases is essential

  • Experience of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recover (DR) options

  • NoSQL database and PowerBI experience
